Consumed: Asian Horror Showcase

The Hall, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Moving image shorts, visual art, oral storytelling and performance poetry.

"Hungry spirits" from Asia, such as the pretas of Bangladesh and India and the eguis of China and Korea, have haunted horror lore for centuries. But what were they hungry for? Food, drink, salvation from endless suffering, or a bit of everything? CONSUMED reinterprets these spirits through short films, visual art, oral storytelling and performance poetry.

Curated by journalist Shaurya Thapa and his arts collective Bhindi Wire, the showcase explores hunger in all its modern meanings across South and East Asia, and how horror has evolved and localised in the region.

At 7.10pm, writer and curator Sarah Sparkes performs "My Hungry Ghost". From 7.30pm the screening includes "Dhet" (Ummid Ashraf), "Mop" (Joon Goh) and segments of "The Bhoot Club" (Vatsal Bucha), with virtual Q&As with the directors. Poet Maya Uppal also performs.

Monday 26 October, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. 18+. Tickets £5.
